Watch-Making History Alert! These Gerard Perregaux Watches were marketed under the slogan, "The Only Thing More Accurate is the Sun." This vintage Girard-Perregaux quartz watch from circa 1972 is a significant piece of horological history, as it represents one of the brand's very early forays into quartz technology, following their groundbreaking GP 350 series. The movement in these (first hit the market in early 71) was the first to bring in the 32,768 Hz frequency that is still used by 99% of quartz watches today, and the first Swiss stepping motor (they'd used a tuning fork setup in the Beta 21 and Longines' UltraQuartz). The jewels were replaced by Teflon bearings, so never needed oiling and it was far easier to maintain and repair than the other new fangled quartz movements of the time. It also had much more torque, so could use standard sized hands and a date that flicked over instantly rather than over time. In excellent condition -- barely worn. This was one of Bob's best watches. It's been recently inspected, cleaned/serviced, and repaired. Crystal is excellent, Dial is prefect, Case is excellent with only the faintest light scratches. Strap is NOS, maybe worn once or twice. Size is 38mm wide x 43mm tall
