1950s Benrus Automatic. 10K Gold-filled, great condition. Sadly, and sadly for me especially, Bob didn't have any Benrus watches. Benrus was an American company that pioneered using high-quality Swiss movements and marketing quality but affordable watches to the American public in the interwar years and beyond. Luckily, I've set my sights on acquiring some Benrus watches to share with you here. Well, "share" in exchange for money. Like Uber or Air BnB.... :) This watch comes from one of Benrus's high points of design and workmanship. The late 1950s saw great streamlined styles, a series of excellent Swiss mechanical movements, thinner designs, and partnerships with various "famous" airlines. This self-winding model is so perfect -- the convenience of reliability without remembering to wind and never needing to replace the battery! And those modernist numbers! This Three Star Gold Filled watch has worked perfectly since I acquired it last year. I've worn it a few times and It winds easily and smoothly (if you want to give the self-winding a boost before bedtime), and runs strongly and keeps time. Case and crystal show only the light scratches. One little ding at 4pm where the lug meets the case. Watch has a brand new Teju Grain leather strap with lizard pattern. See pictures. Movement has been inspected, but not serviced. It appears clean, and runs strongly. But as its history is unknown, a visit to a local watchmaker for a routine service may be needed in the future. It's been reliable so far though. Lack of a full service is of course a factor in the price. Great anti-smart watch. No batteries, tells nothing but time.
