As the 1960s witnessed a surge in the popularity of skin diving and underwater exploration (Jaques Cousteau!), watch designs evolved to meet the demands of adventurous spirits. This Dorset Diving Watch, a distinguished creation from the Montgomery Ward brand, rides the crest of this trend with its excellence and rarity. It not only reflects the innovative spirit of the time but also encapsulates the era's fascination with precision and durability. With a 17 Jewel Seiko-Made, hand-winding, Universal Time movement at its core, this timepiece is not merely a watch; it's a nod to the rise of the Skin Diver style, effortlessly merging vintage aesthetics with the timeless allure of underwater exploration.
This was one of Bob's prized watches. He wore it on one of those wide 1970s leather bands that served to protect it from dirt and wear. It's in good overall condition -- very light scratches on crystal a very tiny crack near 8 o'clock. Case and back are in great shape with only very light scrathes. Dial is great, lume on hands remains perfect, lume on indicies has a more vintage appearance. Diving bezel turns smoothly in both directions. New Tropic style band installed.
Runs and winds well, date quickset doesn’t seem to work, but date can be set by advancing time. Date functions normally once set.
