This is a stunning Eternamatic tank watch from the 1940s. Signed "Birks Challenger" by the famous Canadian Jeweler. Birks was considered the Canadian TIffany. Watches with the Birks Challenger imprint were particularly renowned in the mid-century.
In the 1940s and 1950s, Eterna was a prominent Swiss watchmaker, known for its innovative automatic movements and high-quality timepieces. A key innovation of the period was Eterna's use of ball bearings in their automatic rotor systems, which significantly improved efficiency and reduced friction. Eterna watches, especially those from the 1940s and 1950s, are now highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts.
An early automatic, highly collectible, self-winding watch in good working order -- keeps accurate time. Some fine scratches here and there but in remarkable condition for an 80 year old watch. Crystal is excellent. Bezel and back are great as well. Dial shows the just just the right amount of patina and age while retaining its beauty. See Photos! Watch has not been serviced, but it is running strong and winds really well via winding or wearing.
Originally a mens watch - perfectly suited to anyone today.
Watch is 26.4 wide by 38mm tall (including lugs).
